Our matcha is produced in the world famous Yame tea region, located in the southern Fukuoka Prefecture.
Yame region has been initially famous for gyokuro- the highest quality sencha(loose leaf tea). The region accounts for about 40% of the total Gyokuro production in Japan, and the average unit price of the products from Yame is the highest in the country.
In particular, Hoshino Village in Yame is considered as one of the most ideal places for growing green tea plants for Gyokuro and Matcha because of the inland climate, the altitude, good shade, quality soil and fog-prone nature of the locality.
Hoshino Tea Company applied the hidden knowledge and experiences the company accumulated from the production of Japan's most rewarded and sought-after Gyokuro to its Matcha creation.
In the past 30 years, Hoshino's matcha has received huge recognitions by the major tea schools, and more and more tea masters in Japan had started using it.
